Blanco State Park: Owl Prowl, learn about the predators with hands-on activities then take a short night hike to listen to calls, 6-8 p.m. Free. Entrance fees apply. Call 830-833-4333, Ext. 241, or email kate.boysen@tpwd.texas.gov.

Saturday

Blanco State Park: Stories in Stone, park ranger will cover basics of geocaching while learning history of Civilian Conservation Corps at park along two-mile course, 10 a.m.-noon. Free. Entrance fees apply. RSVP at 830-833-4333, Ext. 241, or email kate.boysen@tpwd.texas.gov.

Guadalupe River State Park: Archery in the Park, a basic archery program presented by instructors Craig Hensley and Nyta Brown, 10-11:30 a.m. and 2-3:30 p.m. For ages 10 and older. Equipment provided. Meet at Rust House. Call 830-438-7653. Free. Entrance fee applies.

Garner State Park: Angler education course for beginners, ages 7 and older, 4-5:30 p.m. at visitor center. Basics on knots, tackle and casting. Friends of Government Canyon SNA: Explore the Canyon, a hike guided by authorities on flora, fauna, geology and cultural history of the state natural area, 12861 Galm Road, 8:30 a.m.-noon.
