Saturday

Blanco State Park: Nature Walk, master naturalist will lead one-mile hike on Caswell Nature Trail to talk about native plants and animals, 10-11:30 a.m. Free. Entrance fees apply. RSVP at 830-833-4333, Ext. 241, or email kate.boysen@tpwd.texas.gov.

Garner State Park: Angler education course for beginners, ages 7 and older, 4-5:30 p.m. at visitor center. Basics on knots, tackle and casting. Loaner equipment available for fishing with a ranger after the class. Free. Park admission fee applies. Call 830-232-6132, Ext. 236, or email cara.bierschwale@tpwd.texas.gov.

Wednesday

Guadalupe River State Park: Park ranger Craig Hensley will lead a hike to welcome in the new year with warm cider and animal calls, 11:30 p.m. RSVP at craig.hensley@tpwd.texas.gov or call 830-438-7653. Free. Entrance fees apply.

Thursday

Blanco State Park: First Day Hike, one-mile walk along the Blanco River, 10-11:30 a.m. Meet at Caswell Nature Trail. Free. Entrance fees apply. Call 830-833-4333, Ext. 241, or email kate.boysen@tpwd.texas.gov.

Government Canyon State Natural Area: First-day events led by rangers and volunteers. Dino Track Hike, seven miles, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Bluff Spurs hike, 3 miles, 9 a.m.-noon and 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.. Mountain Bike, 7 miles, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. RSVP by noon Dec. 31 at friendsofgc.org/events. For information, email fogcsna@gmail.com.

Garner State Park: First Day Hike of about 2.5 miles to the top of Old Baldy, 9 a.m.-noon. Meet at the pavilion in Oakmont. Also First Day Family Fun Hike, minimum age 5, 2-4 p.m. Two miles. Honey Creek State Natural Area: First Day Hike with guide Tom Anderson, 9-11:30 a.m. Adults only. Meet at Rust House inside Guadalupe River State Park. Free with admission to park. RSVP not needed. For information contact craig.hensley@tpwd.texas.gov or call 830-438-7653.
