May 15, 5 p.m. — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is monitoring and responding to the ongoing fire situation in the Texas Panhandle.
Palo Duro Canyon State Park has evacuated due to threat of wildfires coming from the west, including the Hunggate Fire and the Chocolate Chip Fire. The park is closed for entry until at least May 16, and all trails are closed. The park will reopen when conditions are safe. Visitors with reservations are being contacted and full refunds will be provided.
Texas Game Wardens and Texas State Park Police are assisting local law enforcement with the situation.
